Ekphrastic Poem: As We Mind the (Inner) Hearth

Snow Covered Roofs in Paris, by Gustave Caillebotte

This poem was a #Rejected submission to the writing challenge on Ekphrastic Review.

As We Mind the (Inner) Hearth

There are seasons in life
In which we are meant to simply receive,
Allowing ourselves to be blanketed
In quiet and reprieve.

We close the shutters tight
To bar drafts, thereby veiling outward view,
And sit instead with rev’rence by inner
Hearths we treasure anew.

The memories we make,
Stories we spin, and strength that we conserve
Build and prepare us for the coming spring
…There are seasons in life.
