Exercise: Reflected Best Self
I try to limit what I see on my Instagram feed to those influencers I know who will add positivity, insight, depth, and helpful life tools to my existence. One of those is Erick Godsey (IG: erickgodsey) of The Myths That Make Us podcast. I’m joining him and others in a social media fast, although in my own flawed way. His last post before “disappearing” on this week-long fast was to discuss a technique he’s labeled as “life-changing.” The inner critic of which he speaks has a ridiculously strong hold in my life and I’ll be reaching out to my tribe as he encourages. I encourage you to read his post in his entirety, but here’s the short of it:
“It’s called the ‘Reflected Best Self’ exercise. Here is what you do. Pick 15 people you know and love, and ask them to email, text, or DM you a story of a time they witnessed you at your absolute best. Step 2 is to read these stories of when your best self shone through, and begin to form the being they are reflecting back at you, and here is the important part — recognize what situations draw your potential forward; and consciously create more of those situations in 2020.'“
Let me know if/how this changes your life. I would truly enjoy hearing about your experience.
With love,
Your fellow life traveler
